TWO of France’s newest GAA clubs have been invited to perform in front of fans of Paul O’Connell’s club Toulon this weekend.

The European Rugby Champions Cup holders welcome Stade Francais to the Allianz Riveria Stadium, which has a capacity of over 35,000, on Sunday.

And those who arrive early will be treated to something a little different as a warm-up to the main event, as Azur Gaels will take part in a challenge game against the Gaelic Football Club Provence, who were established in 2014.

More Sport:

According to Joe.ie, there are more than 600 people regularly taking part in GAA in France and that figure is growing at a steady rate, while the rapid rise of Azur Gaels is quite remarkable.

Chairman and co-founder of Azur Gaels Chard Faul told Joe.ie: “The club started with one Frenchman, Charley Cornillau, one Englishman and a ball.

“The Azur Gaels has gone from two blokes kicking scores between a pair of poplar trees to a fully-fledged GAA club invited to the home of RC Toulon in the space of four months.”
