A MAN who ‘snapped’ and broke two windows after being subjected to his neighbour’s music has been given a suspended four-month prison term and ordered to pay a £200  fine.

Stephen John Leighton, 53, from Coleraine’s Ballysally estate argued he was subjected to ” psychological torture” when his neighbour played Irish country musician Nathan Carter’s hit Wagon Wheel over and over.

More News:

Coleraine Magistrates Court heard how on Sunday, January 10, Mr Leighton shouted to his neighbour, Jason Kane, 26: “If I hear Wagon Wheel one more time I’m going to break that stereo.”

The police were called when Leighton, who lived alone in a flat below Mr Kane, banged on his door shouting “Open the f**king door now” before breaking two panes of glass.

Mr Kane, who says he is Carter’s biggest fan says he and his fiancee, who was six months pregnant with twins at the time, were terrified by the attack.

After the court case, Nathan Carter stepped forward and offered Mr Kane tickets to one of his shows.

Speaking on the Anton Savage Show on Today FM radio, the country singer said: “It’s obviously a pretty serious story but I couldn’t help but laugh that someone had been outraged by this song so much that they’d take the law into their own hands.”
