THE best goal over this international soccer week can undoubtedly be claimed by an Ireland player.
During an U19 match Liam Kelly scored from an incredible half-way line strike to secure the national team a 1-0 win against Sweden.
The Reading star was praised by the team’s boss Paul Doolin, and comparisons were drawn to David Beckham’s memorable goal in 1996 against Wimbledon at Selhurst Park.
He said: “The goal was absolutely unbelievable and I instantly thought of David Beckham.”
“Liam picked it up on the half-way line looked up and let fly. For a guy of his size he has great technique.”
This is not the first time Kelly has scored in remarkable fashion; he also netted an impressive free-kick for Reading’s U18s against Bolton earlier this year.
