REPUBLIC of Ireland forward Jonathan Walters has allayed fears that he will miss Euro 2016 through injury, insisting he’ll be “grand” come June.

The versatile Stoke City player underwent minor knee surgery on Wednesday and could miss the majority of what’s left of his club’s domestic campaign.

However, Walters – who was named Ireland’s Senior International Player of the Year at the recent FAI awards – has played down fears he won’t be fit for France.

More Sport:

“I’ve had a similar one done before and was back playing in less than three weeks so I’ll be grand,” he told the Irish Independent.

Taking to Twitter for his fans, the 32-year-old even displayed some good old fashioned Irish humour to address the situation.

Walters has been a key figure for Martin O’Neill, scoring five goals during Ireland’s successful qualifying campaign. Ireland open their Euro 2016 campaign against Sweden on June 13.
