THE IRISH are famous the world over for their ability to quieten a room with a song, but usually, the singer is a little older than this.
Keeyln, the young Irish girl in the video below, was filmed singing an impressive rendition of Grace, a much-loved folk song written by Sean And Frank O’Meara in 1985, long before she was born.
Keelyn Cullie, from Clare, learned a few old Irish songs from her motherJudith Culligan, which she is turn learned from her fmother.
Keelyn sang the song sitting at home and her mum uploaded the video to YouTube, where it has been watched over 2000 times.
The famous song, has been sung by many Irish acts, but Keelyn’s version is right up there with the best of them.
Irish Folk Songs states “Jim McCann, who often played with The Dubliners had the most success with [Grace]. It was also sung by The Wolfe Tones, John McDermott, Barleycorn, and Anthony Kearns to name but a few singers.”
The song is said to be about Joseph Plunket and Grace Gifford who married hours before Plunkett was executed for his part in the 1916 Easter Rising in Dublin.
