A look back at Dublin’s Millennium – 1988

More Entertainment:

A video of Dublin in its 1,000th year in 1988 is notching up hits on YouTube.

The video, Dublin’s Fair City – 1988, is just over 30 minutes long and already has over 16, 600 views since it was uploaded on January 29.

The film, directed and produced by Dubliner Michael Mooney, was originally shown in St. Andrew’s Church on St. Andrew’s Street, Dublin 2 for some months to celebrate the Irish capital’s Millennium status.

It became a popular tourist attraction.

“Dublin was a very different city in 1988. Notice the differences in the helicopter aerial footage at the beginning of the video of Dublin’s Docklands from the Dublin we know in 2012,” Ronan Mooney, the son of the director, said.

“It brings very nostalgic feelings for me. My father was very proud of his hard work to make this video, as were his wife and children. I hope it’ll be a fun video to watch now.”

The film, now 24 years old, is narrated by Lar Redmond and the soundtrack was composed by Paul Murphy and Barry Grace.

The photographic work is by Arthur Browne.

The video was sponsored by Philips Electronics Ireland to showcase their new ‘VidiWall’ technology.
